‘We All Want’ the ‘Destruction’ of Capitalism

A DNC panelist is ready to end terrible things…like capitalism.

I have a question for you: Is it believable that someone would drive to the store, buy markers and poster board, go home and make signs, sit in traffic for an hour, and spend all day yelling words of which they never paused to discover the meaning?

That seems implausible, but I’m sometimes convinced to suspect otherwise.

For example, socialism is a system in which no one may own his or her own business. Capitalism is the opposite.

How could it be that anyone would prefer the former? And why have I seen business owners touting the “S” word?

Essentially, capitalism is a system of many small businesses; Socialism is one of a single big business — government. Socialism is a paradigm rooted in monopoly.

What would happen if every time, instead of saying “socialism,” people replaced the term with its definition? If a guy on the corner yelled, “I believe all people should have their right to own a business taken away,” would we soon see a throng of Ameners?

Apropos, speaking to the Youth Council of the Democratic National Committee Monday, DNC panelist Ashley McCray laid out the party’s goals as she sees ’em.

Ashley’s a fan of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, the first congressional problem-solving proposal I’m aware of to finger cow farts. Other problems: buildings and planes.

The buildings will all be taken care of, as soon as we rebuild every one of ’em. And flying? We just have to stop.

Like AOC and her many flights to push the GND, Ashley’s on board:

“[O]ur hope and our dream is that we do push forward the Green New Deal. We do understand there is, the Green New Deal, the AOC-Markey policy that many of us have become accustomed to, but also realizing that on a state level, many different policies are being pushed forward that do relate to the Green New Deal, that are collectively moving forward into this regenerative economy and this regenerative future. And really, our position is that the Green New Deal and its policies, we’re moving toward this way anyway.”

That’s all fine and good, but what about the more general condition of a free market economy in which you can open a taco stand?

Ashley believes it’s gotta go:

“We understand that this future that we all want, that we’re all trying to build, really is about the destruction of colonization, white supremacy, and capitalism. We must really move away from these systems and these frameworks if we really want to live in a future that does have a regenerative economy and does enable liberation and equity for our communities. This is definitely something that we all want to push for.”

There you have it, folks.

The GND and a battle against business rights go hand in hand. AOC’s jabbed the system often, like when she flew to South By Southwest in March of last year:

“The most important thing is the concentration of capital; it means that we seek and prioritize profit, the accumulation of money above all else and we seek it at any human and environmental cost. That is what that means. And to me, that ideology is not sustainable and cannot be redeemed. … What we are reckoning with are the consequences of putting profit above everything else in society.”

That remark — played on Fox News at the time — got the following response from host Melissa Francis:

“That’s what she said the definition of capitalism is. … I think that she needs a dictionary of some type, because she doesn’t know what capitalism is.”

Melissa continued:

“[AOC] says she’s for the people, but what she’s advocating in socialism is a government takeover of resources.”

Ding ding ding!

“So, basically, it’s a power grab for her and her fellow politicians to be in charge of industry and dolling out money and goods and services and healthcare and food to the rest of the country. It’s a power grab on her part. Wouldn’t it be good for people to point that out?”

Putting aside Alexandria and her intent, Melissa nailed the concept of socialism — in a way I rarely hear from anyone, on either side of the aisle.

Meanwhile, according to Ashley, it’s what Democrats demand.

Do they?

On Fox, The Wall Street Journal’s Dan Henninger had thoughts:

“The danger in her remarks on capitalism is not so much that the Democratic Party is going to adopt Ocasio-Cortez’s version of socialism. It’s that, I think, a lot of the Democrats are intimidated by her large presence. … [W]hile I don’t think we’ll get anyone like that running for the presidency —that’ll be sorted out in the Democratic primaries — the real danger is what would the next Democratic president do.”

Yes — with Bernie Sanders and AOC aligned with Biden/Harris, what will the next Democratic president do?

Particularly right now, it’s a very good question…
