California Congressman Humiliates Gov. Gavin Newsom in Blistering Pro-Liberty House Floor Speech

5 mins read

The last week or so has not been a good one for California Democrats.

Last Friday, COVID lockdown hypocrite House Speaker Marie Antoinette Nancy Pelosi was shamed by both the left and the right on social media into canceling a rather ritzy gathering of incoming Democratic House members as Democrats including her own governor were all but pushing for canceling Thanskgiving.

Pelosi’s planned posh gala was especially egregious considering 1) she’s still stalling the pandemic relief bill as millions struggle to make ends meet, and 2) the email she’d sent to supporters in her Congressional district on the same day urging them to continue “mask-wearing and social distancing” which she said was “essential to preventing tens of thousands of needless deaths.”

On that same day, Gov. Gavin Newsom was once again exposed as a massive COVID lockdown hypocrite after being caught attending an intimate private birthday get-together for a “longtime friend” at a trendy Napa County restaurant at the same time he was implementing more draconian measures that placed strict limits on the number of people who could gather together even at private residences.

Though both Pelosi and Newsom are trying to move on from the backlash and criticism they faced for actions that confirmed everything Republicans have ever said about the double standards of the leftist ruling elites on COVID restrictions, Republicans – especially those in their home state – have no interest in letting them forget about what they did.

Case in point, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), who took to the floor of the U.S. House earlier today to deliver a blistering speech in which he “defended” Newsom getting together with friends and family in a way that cut to the quick:

“I rise this morning in defense for Governor Gavin Newsom, who recently defied his own idiotic COVID edicts as he partied at one of the few restaurants that’s not yet been forced out of business,” McClintock said in a floor speech on Thursday.

“I defend him because he was doing what we all once did in our free society: run what risks we’re willing to run and what precautions we’re willing to take according to our own circumstances to protect our own health,” McClintock continued.

[…]

McClintock said that Newsom’s “night of partying” should be a “wakeup call for every American,” adding that people can use common sense to make decisions for themselves. He then blasted coronavirus restrictions from Newsom and the “lockdown leftists,” which he said have led to high mortality rates and deferred health screenings and treatments.

[…]

“So let us not criticize Gov. Newsom. Perhaps he’s just offered us all deliverance from his own folly,” McClintock said. “The governor should make decisions about running his own life. I only ask that he and his ilk would stop telling the rest of us how to run ours.”

Watch:

As I wrote earlier, it’s no wonder we’re seeing more defiance against lockdowns in states like California when you see the duplicitous behavior of “leaders” like Pelosi and Newsom. People are only going to put up with so much before they say “enough’s enough, if the rules don’t apply to you, they don’t apply to me either.”

Other than Pelosi and maybe Gov. Andrew Cuomo, I can’t think of a Democrat in this country more deserving of the type of epic call-out and smackdown McClintock delivered today. Well done, sir. Well done.
