In response to millionaire reporter Jake Tapper and billionaire software king Bill Gates agreeing that it is “appropriate” for the United States to go into another economic lockdown to try to combat COVID-19, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) criticized their eagerness to bankrupt small businesses.

He added that it would be appropriate in a lockdown to “halt ALL salaries at CNN & Microsoft” to see if they really support another lockdown.

On CNN’s State of the Union, Dec. 13, host Jake Tapper said, “There are a lot of governors who oppose bringing back these lockdown orders and forcing businesses to close. What do you think? Do you think more states needs to consider taking that kind of drastic action and the kind of drastic action we saw when the pandemic first began?”

Bill Gates, who has an estimated net worth of $119 billion, said, “Bars and restaurants in most of the country will be closed as we go into this wave. And I think, sadly, that’s appropriate. … [T]rade-offs will have to be made. But this — the next four to six months really call on us to do our best, because we can see that this will end, and you don’t want somebody you love to be the last to die of coronavirus.”

Gates also said, “So, we will have, starting in the summer, about nine months where a few things, like big public gatherings, will still be restricted. But we can see now that, somewhere between 12 to 18 months, and we have a chance, if we manage it well, to get back to normal.”

Later on Dec. 13, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tweeted, “Leftists: a millionaire & a billionaire discuss how they think its ‘appropriate’ to destroy & bankrupt small businesses across America.

“Tell you what…halt ALL salaries at CNN & Microsoft, stop paying Dem politicians & then let’s see if they think TWO MORE YEARS shutdown is OK.”

NBC News reported on Nov. 16, “The wave of Covid-19 infections sweeping across the United States was followed Monday by a spate of new lockdowns and calls to reimpose restrictions after a week when more than a million new cases were reported.

“In Chicago, a sweeping stay-at-home advisory to slow the spread of the virus was scheduled to go into effect Monday.

“In Philadelphia, new restrictions were expected to be announced later Monday as the numbers of new cases soared and the holidays loomed.

“And New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said that public schools will stay open for now but that if the positive testing rate goes over 3 percent — and it has been edging ever closer to that —- he would be forced to close the country’s largest public school system and resume remote learning.”
