Charlotte, NC — On Monday, the Associated Press shared a clarification to their annual guidance on journalistic style. They set the standards for most organizations regarding format for news articles across the world. The latest yearly release was not disappointing.
The clarification was in how the organization will handle the word “white.” Last month, the organization announced they would treat the word “black” differently than before. If the term is used in the context of referring to African Americans, it should be capitalized. If the word “white” is used to reference Caucasians, it will not be capitalized according to Monday’s statement.
The AP’s Vice President of Standards said, “capitalizing the term white, as is done by white supremacists, risks subtly conveying legitimacy to such beliefs.” Multiple media outlets have adopted the new standard, while others, like Fox News and CNN, have said they will also capitalize “white” as well.
The suggestion is not surprising given the state of the race issues across our country. Organizations everywhere have been pandering to the black community since the George Floyd incident in Minneapolis.
To justify the decision, the AP said, “The AP said white people, in general, have much less shared history and culture, and don’t have the experience of being discriminated against because of skin color.” Yes, the AP is saying that white people do not have a shared history and culture that is worth acknowledging them as an ethnic group.
The NY Times, in supporting the decision, said on July 5th, “White doesn’t represent a shared culture and history in the way Black does.” I find it interesting that the AP and the NY Times both say that white people have no shared culture or history anymore.
For the last several months, we have heard nothing but the story of the racist past of white America. We have listened to how our history is woven with racism. No aspect of “white” Americans was left out. From our founding fathers through President Trump, everyone that has ever accomplished anything, did so on the backs of “black” Americans.
The left would have you to believe that every “white” should give up their rights to any history and culture just because they are “white.” They want you to think you do not deserve it and that any history and culture you may have should be eliminated. Where did we seem to go off track in determining what bound us together?
In the height of the civil rights movement, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. made a strong statement. He said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” We were moving in that direction until now.
Rather than looking at a country that can unite us, the left continues to divide us. It’s not a nation that is a group of Americans, but they are dividing us into groups based on color. This seems like a drastic reversal of course.
The dream of MLK is fading fast. All the gains that were made in unifying us into one group of Americans are being erased. The left is setting us on a course for the complete dismantling of US history and a race war that will divide us permanently.
