Six Democratic governors are asking Congress to suspend the federal gas tax — not permanently, just to the end of 2022. That conveniently aligns with their election-year interests, as five of the six are running for reelection: Tony Evers of Wisconsin, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Tim Walz of Minnesota, Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, and Jared Polis of Colorado. All six states are battlegrounds to varying degrees in races for the House, Senate, and/or state legislatures.

Minnesota: 41 percent approve, 49 percent disapprove (-8)
Colorado: 38 percent approve, 53 percent disapprove (-15)
Wisconsin: 36 percent approve, 54 percent disapprove (-18)
Pennsylvania: 36 percent approve, 56 percent disapprove (-20)
New Mexico: 34 percent approve, 55 percent disapprove (-21)
Michigan: 35 percent approve, 57 percent disapprove (-22)
