Let’s Not Pretend That the Left Would Have Ever Listened to Trump

The Woodward Tapes have provided for some interesting dialogue in the country over the last several days.  Both “teams” have gone to their corners, one defending the President for the statements made to Woodward and the other criticizing him.  I am going to choose a different path to approach this:  One of critical thought.

Some of the statements made by Democrats go a little something like this:

“Trump knew it was more severe than it was and didn’t do anything.”

“Trump knew it was deadly and lied to the American people about it.”

“Trump knew it was going to spread and made it worse!”

Or this classic:

Except there’s one problem. Everything Trump has done up until this point to combat the Wuhan Virus has been opposed by Democrats.

Literally, everything.

At what point have Democrats ever listened to or gone along with literally anything Trump has ever said or done?  Let’s play this out.

Let’s pretend for a minute that Trump came out on February 15th and ordered a national mask mandate.  Do you think Democrats would have complied?  What if Trump had ordered schools closed nationally?  Do you think Democrats would have applauded the decision?  What if Trump had decided to close all international travel?  Do you think Democrats would have championed the cause? What if Trump had ordered a national lockdown and closed all outdoor activities?  Do you honestly believe that for one minute, Democrats would have ever gone along?  Give me a break.

Let’s say that Trump ordered certain states to close and allowed others to continue to operate?  Do you think Dems would have marched along with that?  What if Trump had applied two different standards of re-opening to different areas in the country?  Would Dems have been on Team Trump?  What if Trump had given people without medical qualifications, the ability to craft public policy in relation to the implementation thereof? Would Dems have supported him then? Of course not, yet all of the above policies have occurred in Democrat-controlled states.

Does anyone remember the rush on toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and other items?  What do you think would have happened if Trump told the American people that a deadly virus is on the way? Does the Left think that a mass, panic-driven, shelf clearing spree would have solved anything or made anything better?  Would food shortages and potential civil unrest have been better?  Nope, but they would have blamed that on Trump, too.

The same people telling you we should punish Trump for downplaying the severity of the Wuhan Virus, are the same people who called Trump racist for calling out the Chinese for…. get this…. downplaying the virus.   The same people telling you that Trump disseminated faulty information regarding the virus are the same people who criticized Trump for calling out the WHO for  ….. surprisingly…. disseminating faulty information.  This isn’t conjecture or speculation.  These are actual events that happened.  Do Democrats think we are going to forget?

Let’s not pretend the Left would have ever listened to Trump.  Let’s not pretend like they would have ever given him the benefit of the doubt or that they would have cooperated with anything he attempted to institute. Let’s not pretend like they would have listened to Trump if he had instituted the policies implemented in blue states.  To allow the Left to say that they blame Trump for not acting when we all know they wouldn’t have done anything he suggested anyway makes the point absolutely moot.

Not only is it a lie, but it is also insulting.
