(CNSNews.com) – President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have both tested positive for coronavirus, the president and his physician have confirmed.
“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,” Trump tweeted shortly before 1AM on Friday morning. “We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
“The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence,” White House physician Sean Conley said in a statement, released by White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany with the consent of the president and first lady.
“The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions,” Conley wrote. “Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.”
Speaking by phone to Fox News’ Sean Hannity earlier on Thursday evening, Trump confirmed that White House aide Hope Hicks – who traveled with him to a campaign event in Minnesota on Wednesday and the debate in Cleveland the day before – had tested positive for COVID-19, and that he and his wife had been tested.
Trump then tweeted that he and the first lady were awaiting test results after Hope had tested positive, while beginning a “quarantine process”:
“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”
