If The ‘Timberland Boot Ws On The Other Foot,’ Dems Would Be Filling RBG’s Seat

The passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has ignited yet another national debate about the Supreme Court and whether or not Republicans should push to confirm her replacement before the election. Mere hours after her death, Democratic politicians called on the GOP to wait until after the election to deal with filling Ginsburg’s seat.

This was just one of the subjects I debated in my recent appearance on “The Tammi Mac Late Show” on the Fox Soul network. On a panel with Diante Johnson, Edward Sanders, Dominique DiPrimma, and of course, host Tammi Mac, we discussed the higher stakes of the newly vacated Supreme Court seat as well as the possibility that the 2020 election will be contested.

Here’s the bottom line, as former President Barack Obama said, “elections have consequences.” Perhaps in the past, it might have been customary to wait until after a presidential election to appoint a new judge. But as we have already seen, this isn’t your grandparents’ politics, right?

For better or worse, we are in a new era, and the old traditions don’t necessarily apply. There can be absolutely no doubt that were the Democrats were in a position of power, they would take the exact same action that President Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers are poised to take. The only difference is that there would be no whining or clutching of pearls from the corporate media in that scenario.
