(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Rand Paul and his wife Kelly, attacked by an angry mob as they left the White House Thursday night, on Friday credited police with saving their lives.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said he took one look at the mob awaiting Republican guests of President Trump, and became “very worried.”

Jordan told “Fox & Friends” he was with his wife Polly as well as Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) and his wife Lisa:

And before we walked out, I actually decided to call Leader McCarthy and ask him if he had left the grounds yet. He was still there at the white house and of course the leader has Capitol Hill police detail with him. And I just asked Kevin, I said hey, can we just jump in with you, pile into your Suburban and get back to Capitol Hill, so we were fortunate.

I was nervous to walk out particularly when I had Polly with me and as I said, Congressman Davidson’s wife Lisa was with us as well. And this is scary. Rand’s right. You know, the attorney general asked the appropriate question one month ago today. In that hearing we had on Capitol Hill, he asked the Democrats, why won’t you denounce the mob? Why won’t you denounce the violence? And he was met with silence.

And so we’ve got to speak out against this, it’s got to stop. And Rand said it right — if it’s Joe Biden’s America, we’re going to get more of it, unfortunately.

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), appearing on “Fox & Friends with Jordan, was asked what’s changed in the brief time since he left office:

Well, Nancy Pelosi called Kevin McCarthy an enemy of the state. Alice Johnson last night was called a prop by Politico. Look at Tim Scott’s Twitter account sometime, look at the things he’s called.  A Democrat congressman questioned his blackness this week because he happened to speak at the RNC.

Public safety is the number one function of government, and I’m gonna tell you, if you’ve got a three-time NCAA wrestling champion who is asking for a ride out of somewhere, you know it’s out of control…Public safety is on the ballot in November. The contrast is pretty stark.

Jordan condemned the Democrats’ “double standard.”

Think about what Americans have had to live through the last few months. You can’t go to church, you can’t go to work, you can’t go to school, you can’t go to the beach, you couldn’t go to a loved one’s funeral, you can’t vote in person and you can’t play college football, but for goodness sake, you can riot, you can protest and you can loot. That is ridiculous and Trey is exactly right. We’ve got to call this out, every leader has to call this out.

And why in the world Democrat leaders in these cities and in these states, why they won’t call it out, why they won’t get control of it, I do not know. But it is getting out of control, and if it is organized, as the Senator (Paul) suggested, I’m sure the Justice Department is looking into this, and we need to hold people accountable.
