Uh oh, is Michigan turning for Trump again?
We all remember Trump’s historic upset over Hillary Clinton in 2016, including here in the great state of Michigan. Polls in 2016 showed Clinton beating the real estate mogul and handily winning over Trump. Yet the Trump faithful showed up on Election Day and proved the pre-election polling wrong.
Trump went on to win Michigan by just 11,000 votes but it earned him the first GOP victory in the state since 1988. After the DNC and RNC conventions, there’s been a split in reactions, which is good news to the Trump camp. A national poll showed Joe Biden’s fail of a convention didn’t boost his numbers at all according to Reuters…
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden saw no bounce in popular support after last week’s Democratic National Convention, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday, pointing to Americans’ hardened political views.
Biden held his lead over President Donald Trump in the national opinion poll taken Aug. 19 to 25, with 47% of registered voters backing the Democratic challenger and 40% supporting the Republican incumbent. That was a similar edge to what Biden had before his party’s convention, a scaled-back, virtual event because of the coronavirus pandemic.
That marks a shift from many past election cycles. The previous Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, saw a 4-percentage-point gain against Trump after her party’s 2016 convention, while Trump’s support also rose 4 points after his party’s gathering that year. The Republicans are holding their convention, a mix of in-person and virtual events, this week.
Now, a polling group out of South Carolina, The Trafalgar Group released new numbers for the presidential race here in Michigan. Their latest numbers are:
Trump 47% (+2)
Biden 45%
Jorgensen 3%
It may be a small increase, but these numbers are encouraging for the Trump camp.
Michigan was one of three states ( the other two were Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) that went to Trump last time by a grand total of 77,00 votes. That garnered the Trump campaign 46 electoral votes and helped secure his grand total of 304 and the Presidency.
That any poll currently has the State of Michigan being competitive once again for Trump is great news for the President’s reelection and worry for Joe Biden.
Buckle up kids, the next 66 days are going to be a blast.
