(CNSNews.com) – Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden told ABC News last week he would “be prepared to do whatever it takes to save lives because we cannot get the country moving until we control the virus.”

ABC’s David Muir asked Biden, “So if the scientists say, shut it down?”

“I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists,” Biden said.

Biden skipped the Sunday talk shows this weekend, leaving it to his friend Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) to speak for him.

Coons, appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” was asked if Biden is “really prepared…to shut down the economy again?”

“What Joe Biden said there was, he will listen to public health experts,” Coons told host Chris Wallace:

He will listen to Dr. Fauci. He will listen to leaders from the NIH and the CDC. That’s something Donald Trump has demonstrably failed to do. Donald Trump’s like a man whose lost on the highway and refuses to ask for directions.

In fact, worse, he has peddled quackery. He has advocated for solutions like Hydroxychloroquine, which the FDA has said not only don’t work but are harmful. If public health officials say that’s the only way forward, he’s willing to do it. He’s willing to lead.

Donald Trump failed to confront this pandemic. Countries similar to ours, like Canada or Japan, at similar stages of development have gotten a handle on this virus. The number of deaths, the impact on their economy, far less.

What Joe Biden is showing his leadership and a willingness to trust science.

President Donald Trump watched Chris Wallace’s interview with Sen. Coons, and he didn’t like what he saw, tweeting on Sunday:

“Chris Wallace ‘forgot’ to ask a very weak and pathetic Schumer puppet, Senator Chrisie Coons, why Biden fought me when I put an extremely early BAN on people coming into our Country from heavily infected China. Biden later admitted I was right! But why no question?”

“‘Next we’ll turn to people of the Biden inner circle’, said by Chris Wallace of @FoxNews after unsuccessfully GRILLING Mark Meadows. Then all softball questions to a group of Biden lightweights, including Senator Chris Coons of Delaware.”

Trump also pushed back on Biden’s comment that he would “shut” down the economy if the scientists recommend it.

“Despite biggest ever job gains and a V shaped recovery, Joe Biden said, ‘I would shut it down’, referring to our Country. He has no clue!”
