Jussie Smollett ain’t got nothin’ on Sabrina Belcher, a Democrat candidate running for mayor of Sumter, South Carolina.
Belcher was arrested earlier this week for allegedly filming a fake kidnapping of herself and filing a false police report as part of an effort to win sympathy votes. She was charged with conspiracy, as well.

Police have arrested a Democratic candidate in South Carolina for allegedly filming a fake kidnapping of herself to win votes while running for mayor, reports The State.
Authorities charged Sabrina Belcher with conspiracy as well as filing a false police report following the fake kidnapping.
She was filmed being robbed, beaten and kidnapped on Tuesday in a video on Facebook live and according to The State, Belcher arranged the whole incident in order to get “sympathy” before the election.
As Andy Ngô, editor-at-large for the Post Millennial noted, Belcher isn’t (wasn’t?) just running to become the city’s “first black female mayor,” she’s also a rapper. Of course she is.

According to the Sumter Police Department, Belcher and her accomplice Christopher James Eaddy staged and filmed the fake kidnapping and beating to bolster her chances of winning the election.
Moreover, Belcher tried to blame the silly episode on one of her five opponents in the race, breathlessly telling police she had been attacked an unknown assailant, claiming he also tried to rob her.
As “harrowing” as the episode was, Belcher somehow managed to keep her “wits” about her and livestream the whole thing on Facebook.
Man, D.C. Democrats ain’t got nothin’ on this political genius, either!
