Charlotte, NC – Former FBI agent Kevin Clinesmith plead guilty on Wednesday to altering documents that were used to secure court approval to spy on the Trump Administration. The Associated Press reports that Clinesmith altered an e-mail that the FBI used to eavesdrop on Carter Page in 2017. This is the first charge to be leveraged as part of the Durham investigation.

Attorney General William Barr appointed Durham to perform a special investigation into the FBI’s actions in the Russia probe. The sentencing calls for up to 6 months in prison for the action, which is up to the US District Judge in the case. More charges are expected as the FBI’s actions have been highly scrutinized.

AG Barr has noted that the current investigation does not include any potential candidates in the 2020 election, so no potential election conflict is present. One other name that could be implicated as part of the investigation would be former FBI director James Comey.
