On the second night of the Democratic National Convention, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) gave a short speech that encapsulated her ultra-progressive, socialist agenda. In less than one minute, Ocasio-Cortez laid out her radical vision for the United States, and it sure should scare the pants off of most Americans.
AOC began her diatribe by immediately taking the moral high ground in saying, “Thank you to everyone here today endeavoring towards a better, more just future for our country and our world.” Just out of curiosity, I would love to hear AOC’s exact definition of a more just future.
Although AOC did not have enough time in her 90-second speech to fully articulate her definition of a more just future, she did provide several examples of what her just vision/version of the future should entail.
According to Ocasio-Cortez, her radical socialist agenda is “in fidelity and gratitude to a mass people’s movement working to establish 21st century social, economic, and human rights.” Again, she fails to elaborate on the moral grounds or ethical foundation of for her so-called movement.
However, AOC did make sure to include vivid examples of the legislative aspects of her immoral movement. As she describes, her movement would include, “guaranteed health care, higher education, living wages, and labor rights for all people in the United States.”
Pay particular attention to the last few words of that sentence. AOC wants free stuff for “all people in the United States”—which is a cute way of saying her freebies would apply to not only all citizens of the United States, but also to all of the millions of people who have entered the United States illegally. Some estimates put this number in the tens of millions.
Then AOC pivoted quite quickly to her favorite hobby: Bashing America. As she put it oh so eloquently, hers is “a movement striving to recognize and repair the wounds of racial injustice, colonization, misogyny, and homophobia, and to propose and build reimagined systems of immigration and foreign policy that turn away from the violence and xenophobia of our past; a movement that realizes the unsustainable brutality of an economy that rewards explosive inequalities of wealth for the few at the expense of long-term stability for the many, and who organized an historic, grassroots campaign to reclaim our democracy.”
Once again, as usual, AOC is wildly off-base. Unlike her portrayal of America as a bastion of cruelty and oppression, the exact opposite is true.
America, despite AOC’s radical rhetoric, is an exceptional nation that offers ample opportunity and freedom. Although America is far from perfect, it is far from the racist, terrible place that AOC claims it is. And if America is such a rotten country, why did AOC’s family come here in the first place? Moreover, if America is such a morally bankrupt nation, why do millions of people from around the globe desperately desire to come here every year? I would love to hear AOC’s response.
Perhaps the last line in her speech was the most eyebrow-raising. In closing, AOC said, “In a time when millions of people in the United States are looking for deep systemic solutions to our crises of mass evictions, unemployment, and lack of health care, and espíritu del pueblo and out of a love for all people, I hereby second the nomination of Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont for president of the United States of America.”
Say what? Did AOC just pledge her support for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for president of the United States while speaking at the Democratic National Convention in which Joe Biden was formally nominated for that very position? Unsurprisingly, DNC officials immediately said AOC’s nomination of Sanders was routine procedure because all presidential candidates who receive more than 300 delegates must be nominated.
However, even if this was just a slip of the tongue or party parliamentary protocol, it seems like AOC just unleashed a sizable schism that the Democratic Party needs to repair ASAP with an election less than 80 days away.
