Here’s one for the books.
In Nashville, City Council member Sharon Hurt has an idea that might convince people to wear their masks.
During Wednesday’s virtual Joint Public Safety and Health Committee meeting, she tossed out a real humdinger.
The lady wants up the punishment for non-compliance.
Here’s The Tennessee Star:
Hurt said that she works for an organization that, “If they pass the virus, then they are tried for murder or attempted murder.”
Hurt thinks the same standard should apply to the general public.
How’s that for effective government?
Is she hoping O.J. comes through town, sans mask? A second shot at a conviction? A little vengeance from a member of the Women Named Sharon Club?
She explained:
“This person who may very well pass this virus that’s out in the air because they’re not wearing a mask is basically doing the same thing to someone who contracts it and dies from it.”
Therefore:
“Maybe there needs to be stronger legislation to say that if you do not wear a mask, and you subject exposure of this virus to someone else then there will be some stronger penalty as it is in other viruses that are exposed.”

How’s the coronavirus’d country music capital doing as of late?
As per the Star, there’s been a recent decline in new cases. And the fatality rate sits at 0.9%.
But Sharon’s not happy with the city’s mask enforcement thus far.
“It seems to me that we have been more reactive as opposed to proactive and a little too late, too little,” Hurt said.
Metro Nashville Director of Legislative Affairs Mike Jameson explained to Sharon that the Council’s hands are a bit tied where murder is concerned:
“The Council does not have the opportunity on its own to create criminal legislation. In terms of creating a new code or class of criminal offenses, that is a creature of state law.”
“I was afraid that was going to be the answer,” she replied.
Is the lack of murder charges hurting Cowboy Town?
To hear Sharon tell it, maybe:
“I guess that’s the whole point of asking for something to be done as early as the Council was pushing. It seems it was not taken as seriously as it should have been and thus we are in the situation we are in right now.”
Oh, well. Maybe if Joe Biden gets elected president, that can all be remedied. Nationally.
Or maybe in November, we need to elect President Karen.
For now, Nashville will have to make it through without the beefed-up punishment. And no Stocks. No Rack. No medieval Knee Splitter. And no Head Crusher.
But on the bright side, with Sharon there to make suggestions, at least they’ve got the Mind Blower.
