The craziness of the craziest times many of us have ever lived through has a bit to do with the lack of an off-ramp. We don’t know how to make it stop. We don’t know where we’re going. We don’t know what to do.
Well, sort of. A contemporary of mine, half a century ago, faced with inscrutable circumstances in the cultural/political world, was fond of declaring, “I’m just going to ignore it.” This was a person of great intelligence, given to thinking much as I thought.
