Washington, DC — Two anti-abortion activists were arrested Saturday morning outside of a Planned Parenthood building. Erica Caporaletti, a 22-year-old student at Towson University, and Warner DePriest, a 29-year-old D.C. resident, were writing “Black Pre-Born Lives Matter” with chalk on the sidewalk when police arrested them.

“This is government censorship,” Caporaletti said through a bullhorn, with a Planned Parenthood sign behind her and a “Black Pre-Born Lives Matter” poster between her and a small crowd. This was part of an event held by Students for Life of America and the Frederick Douglass Foundation, according to the Daily Caller
The arrests happened just before 6 a.m., soon after a group of about two dozen people showed up to paint in the street as part of what they called a campaign to highlight the impact of abortion on Black communities. A police officer gave two protesters a warning before they were arrested saying,

“I’m gonna tell you now that if you continue chalking you will be placed under arrest for defacing property.“

As the officers moved in to arrest the two people who were chalking, someone in the crowd said, “you know they do this every Saturday, right?”

“Every Saturday, people are here chalking, and you are taking somebody, young people, and arresting them because they are simply putting ‘black preborn lives matter?’ You’ve gotta be joking,” said an onlooker. The protesters then began chanting, “black preborn lives matter!”

“All of a sudden, they’ve committed a crime – they do this every week, I come down here routinely to pray, I’ve seen people, and they’ve never arrested anybody before,” the man added. “But today, they are arresting people because we have decided to peacefully assemble and to stand for black preborn lives.”

“We are moving on with our event today, that is not going to stop us,” said Michele Hendrickson, eastern regional director for Students for Life. “If anything, this just added some fuel to our fire.”

Representatives of Students for Life of America said they plan to sue D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) because the police action violated their First Amendment rights.
