Charlotte, N.C. — President Trump’s aggressive campaign to encourage sweeping investigations of his predecessor Barack Obama met a unanimous response from Senate Republicans: No thanks.

The President has been vocal and adamant the Obama administration, all of the 44th president’s administration, including the former president himself, should be investigated and held accountable.  Senate Republicans indicated that the Senate would pass on investigating the former president as they conduct their own investigations that could soon ensnare other senior Obama administration officials.

Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Lindsey Graham (R-SC), said “I’m not anticipating calling President Obama.” His committee is investigating the origins of the 2016 Russia investigation, and Graham has vowed to bring in former senior Obama administration officials as witnesses. Those ex-officials include former FBI Director James Comey and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

Graham did provide a comforting line to Republicans and the president by saying, “I think the president’s got a real good reason to be upset with the Obama people.”

Not to be outdone, Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R,-SD) also declined to endorse an effort to investigate the former president said, “That’s already being looked at, and we’ve got relevant committees up here that are talking a look at some of those issues too. I always think that at the end, eventually the truth comes out, and I’m sure it will here too,”

Late last week, the Justice Department decided last week to drop charges against Michael Flynn.  However, this past weekend, President Trump accused Obama of committing the “biggest political crime in American history.”  The President retweeted a photo of himself with the caption:  “Hope you had fun investigating me.  Now it’s my turn.”

Since AG Barr dropped the charges against Flynn, many high ranking officials in the Obama administration have been both scarce and silent.  It’s strange that a president who had such a transformative effect on our national discourse will leave such a negligible policy legacy.

Obama’s administration was imperial in many ways and it changed the way Americans interacted and in some ways paved the way for the Trump administration.  In a recent article written by The Federalist’s David Harsanyi, he said “Obama is watching his much-celebrated and mythologized two-term legacy be systematically demolished.  This, in many ways, tells us that American governance still works.”

The current administration has managed, with the Affordable Care Act being an exception, to dismantle practically every aspect of Obama’s 8 years in office.  The two biggest examples was the withdrawal of the Iran Nuclear deal and the Paris Climate agreement.

The Iran deal was dead on arrival once Trump was sworn in and without significant difficulty given the agreement hinged on presidential fiat rather than national consensus.  Additionally, the media, much like now, was panic-stricken coverage our nation endured as we withdrew from the climate agreement.  This deal was symbolic of how the Obama administration concerned itself more with international consensus than domestic compromise.

Perhaps these Republican Senators are allowing the Durham investigation to be a catchall for everything wrong Obama did.  For the longest time, Republicans wanted a leader who fought back with vigor and gravitas.  We got this with the election of Donald J. Trump.

Sadly, this reaction today from Senators Graham, Cornyn, and Thune is more of the same establishment Republican response that has infuriated so many over the years.  When someone does something wrong, abused the rule of law, and tarnished the Oath they took, then they should be held accountable.

If these guys are fearful current investigatory actions could be reciprocated on our current president after he leaves office, must have forgotten that president Trump has been the most vetted and investigated president in the history of our great nation!

Obama’s comments were treated like Gospel and we weren’t allowed to criticize or critique or be branded a racist by Obama himself and the media that continue to do his bidding.
