(CNSNews.com) — In a party line vote (6-3), Democrats on a committee in the Colorado General Assembly voted to stop a bill that would have required a doctor to help a baby that was born alive after surviving an abortion. Without the legislation, physicians apparently can just leave still-alive aborted babies to die on a table.
The Born Alive Child Physician Relationship bill was introduced by State Rep. Shane Sandridge (R-El Paso County) on Jan. 8, 2020.

The legislation, as summarized, would establish ” a physician-patient relationship between a child born alive after or during an abortion and the physician who performed or attempted to perform the abortion.”
“The bill requires the physician to exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious physician would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age and requires that the child born alive be immediately transferred to a hospital,” reads the proposal.
“The bill creates a civil penalty of $100,000 for a violation enforceable by the attorney general, makes a violation a class 3 felony, and makes a conviction unprofessional conduct for licensing purposes,” states the bill.
The bill was sent to the House State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee, which is known as the “kill committee” — where bills are sent to die.
“We must look at ourselves and decide what kind of a society we are,” said Rep. Sandridge in a statement. “This is not an abortion bill, this is a murder bill.”

Kristi Burton Brown, vice chair of the Colorado Republican Party, told the committee, “We are talking about children born alive,” as The Daily Wire reported.
According to CBN News, National Right to Life Legislative Director Jennifer Popik said, “Pro-abortion Democrats oppose this bill and they should be forced to explain why their allegiance to the abortion industry’s agenda should allow a practice that is tantamount to infanticide.”
“It is outrageous that a born-alive human person may be subjected to lethal violence with impunity or be treated as if she is medical waste,” said Popik.
Jeff Hunt, director of the Centennial Institute and chairman of the Western Conservative Summit, tweeted, “The Colorado legislature just voted down a bill that would require a doctor to provide medical care to a child who is born alive after surviving an abortion. A child is born, in need of help, and the Colorado legislature voted against mandating care. God have mercy.”
According to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, citing data from the CDC and government sources, “Between the years 2003-2014, the CDC analyzed death certificates from those states that report this information and found that at least 143 babies were born alive and subsequently died (the cause was not provided) after an attempted abortion.

“This 1981 article refers to ‘liveborn abortion babies’ and concludes that they are ‘an every day occurrence’ and because they are ’embarrassing’ they are hushed up and never reported.
“The state of Arizona reported 10 babies born alive in just 5 months in 2017.

“In 2006, a 23-week-old baby boy was born alive at A Gyn Diagnostic Center in Hialeah, Florida. When he began breathing and moving, abortion clinic owner Belkis Gonzalez reportedly cut the umbilical cord and zipped him into a biohazard bag, still alive, after which he died.”
