Progressives Melt Down Over Homeland Security’s Elite Border Patrol Initiative

If only progressive leaders were as adamant about protecting American citizens as they are about safeguarding illegal immigrant criminals who commit additional crimes after violating U.S. immigration laws. Perhaps American society would be slightly less insane. But, as you know, it’s 2020, and everything is stupid.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced that they would be deploying an elite Border Patrol unit consisting of 100 hundred agents to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The unit will join ICE in finding, capturing, and deporting illegal immigrants residing in sanctuary cities, which have enacted laws designed to prevent federal authorities from detaining these individuals.

ICE has focused its efforts on deporting illegals who have committed crimes — many of them violent. But the progressive open-borders crowd has still called for the abolition of agencies like ICE and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). It’s not a surprise that they would freak out after hearing that federal authorities are finding a way around their precious sanctuary laws that sacrifice the safety of Americans to defend illegal immigrants.

Former New York City Mayor and Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg — who is facing his own controversies — took to Twitter to criticize the president, claiming that “only a tyrant behaves this way.” He asserted that actions such as these make people “too afraid” to report crimes or seek medical help.

Left-wing journalist Molly Jong-Fast also took the opportunity to whine on Twitter. “This is terrifying,” she wrote.

Massachusetts Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey also expressed their opposition to the initiative. They penned a letter addressed to the heads of CBP, ICE, and DHS, urging them to reconsider. “The BORTAC deployment to Boston and other cities is unnecessary, unwelcome, and dangerous. But the specter of heavily armed, military-like personnel in our cities will accomplish one thing: provoke fear,” they wrote.

The letter continued, demanding that leaders of these agencies “reverse course” and explain their “rationale for employing paramilitary-style immigration personnel…in Boston and elsewhere in the United States.” In the document, the senators asked the department heads to provide information on which communities the agents will be deployed in and how many have been assigned to Boston.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot also had some words for the Trump administration’s latest action against illegal immigration. The city’s leadership has been widely criticized for embracing laws that prioritize illegal alien criminals over its American residents. When the news broke about the Border Patrol unit, she said: “If anyone thinks that they can come here to our city and terrorize our residents into the shadows, let me say this: They’ve got another thing coming.”

While nobody wishes to see federal authorities going into communities to find illegals, the progressives who promote sanctuary laws have provided no other option other than acquiescing to the open borders crowd. But the many victims of illegals who were previously released under these laws demonstrate that allowing the left to have its way is far too dangerous.

It is incumbent on local governments to protect their citizens, but since the Democrats think it’s more important to shield those residing in the country illegally, the White House must act. In the end, it is not the Trump administration’s fault that an elite unit will be going into communities to arrest lawbreakers; the blame lies squarely with the Democrats.
