Buttigieg Says ‘LGBTQ+ Youth Four Times More Likely Than Their Non-LBGTQ+ Peers to Attempt Suicide’

(CNSNews.com) – Pete Buttigieg, one of the frontrunners in the campaign for the Democratic presidential campaign, says he would sign into law the “LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevention Act” and start an “LGBTQ+ suicide prevention task force” if he is elected president.

Buttigieg’s campaign website includes a page that is headlined: “Becoming Whole—A New Era for LGBTQ+ People in America.”

One section of this page carries the subtitle: “Pass the LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevent Act to address key risk factors for deaths by suicide.” It says:

“LGBTQ+ youth are four times more likely than their non-LGBTQ+ peers to attempt suicide. More than two in five transgender people attempt suicide, with numbers climbing even higher for transgender people who are people of color, mentally ill, low-income, or adolescent. ​​​​​​​​Pete will work with Congress to pass the LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevention Act, which will launch a LGBTQ+ suicide prevention task force and address key risk factors for LGBTQ+ deaths by suicide.”
